Ways to Drive Vets Crazy

A client was having a random conversation with me, he went crazy when I said something about the condition of his dog, which I always do and is very normal for veterinarians. All of a sudden, a random thought hit me, because this was not the first time I saw someone who went crazy while talking to me.

Veterinarians say a lot of things when it comes to pets, which we think are part of an average conversation, but is actually not. In fact, We do this to make our clients feel important and satisfied with what we can offer, but it turns out that it can have a negative impact on them.

  1. Use of medical terms – I know a lot of medical terms that may be unfamiliar to pet lovers. This should not be a problem, but I tend to forget that I should translate them into layman’s terms. It’s ok if the person will ask me to translate it into terms that he can understand, but in most cases, our clients don’t really ask and just go crazy with these technical terms.
  2. Too many recommendations – if you visit my clinic, I know that you are expecting the best care for your pet. Veterinarians will also give you too many recommendations as to how you can take care of your pet. It’ll be easier for both of us if you are going to ask for the best solution. Never go crazy when we start to enumerate different solutions, and simply ask for the best option that you can take.
  3. Real estimates – this is actually something that drives us, veterinarians, crazy. In fact, it is a lose-lose situation for us. If the client asked us for the cost of treatment, it will be hard for us to tell the truth, because if the client finds out, he won’t be back for the treatment. If we are going to give them lower estimates, just to get them back to our clinic, the treatment won’t be enough to treat their pets properly – something that I have no way of getting out.
  4. Truth about the pet’s condition – if you are going to visit our clinic, you are expecting to have your pet be treated. However, there are some cases, wherein the pet owner would go crazy after hearing the real condition of his pet. For example, if we said to an owner that their dogs liver is failing instead of just saying you need a liver supplement for your dog, they would freak out. This is the reason why we, veterinarians, would simply give simple advice and recommendations when it comes to taking care of your pet.

Feline Health Care

Feline health care can be a challenge for some cat owners. While there are times when it’s obvious that your cat needs a vet, cats instinctively hide their injuries and illnesses whenever they can. This means cat owners need to look closely for some of the following signs that they need to make an appointment with a veterinarian for their pets.

Changes in Behavior

Cats who are injured or sick may act differently than they normally do. Friendly cats who usually love to be around people might start to hide from them, and energetic cats might become lethargic. You might also see their normally fastidious grooming habits fall by the wayside. You should know your cat better than anyone else, so make an appointment with your vet if you see any obvious behavioral changes.

Changes in Appetite

Cats tend to refuse food when they aren’t feeling well, but some illnesses can actually make them hungrier. Other illnesses might also make your cat thirstier. Cats don’t actually need to drink that much water since they are descended from desert animals, so suddenly drinking a lot of water is usually a sign that your cat might be sick.

Discolored Gums

A healthy cat’s gums will be pink, and discolorations are indicators of an illness. Yellowish gums are an indicator of liver disease, while bluish gums could mean an unhealthy lack of oxygen. In short, if you have the chance to look at your cat’s gums and they aren’t pink, you should be calling a vet.

Repeated Vomiting

All cats vomit on occasion if they eat something disagreeable or if they’re nervous, but repeated vomiting is a sign that there is something wrong. Contact your veterinarian if your cat vomits almost every time it eats, if there is blood in the vomit, or if the vomiting is accompanied by lethargy.

If you need daycare for your dog, you should review daycare services or review what a typical day is like for dogs at a facility. Make sure the facility you choose accepts all ages of dogs, including puppies. Puppies are generally welcome after their second set of vaccinations, or when they are at least 12 weeks of age.

How Dogs Spend Their Days

When you choose a trusted dog day care in Cookham, your dog will generally experience the following activities during his or her day:

  • Running and playing with other dogs at the facility.
  • Working out puzzles and challenges – getting a good brain workout.
  • Receiving a pampering at the spa.
  • Learning new doggy skills by using agility equipment.
  • Brushing up on obedience training.

Ensuring the Well-Being of Your Pet

When you place your dog in a doggy daycare centre, he or she will not only be cared for by a loving staff, he or she will also receive the socialisation he or she requires to be a happy pet. Dogs are social creatures. That is why daycare is a popular way to ensure your dog’s overall well-being.

If you have a puppy, it is a good idea to indoctrinate him or her into a daycare environment. Doing so will lead to a better-behaved dog. Daycare facilities can also give you advice about vet services for your puppy as well as toilet training.

Older dogs can benefit from participating in daycare activities as well. Canine puzzle toys are available for elderly canines who do not have the energy to run and play with the younger dogs.
